Henry Leutwyler and Ina Jang at Musée Des Beaux-Arts Le Locale, Switzerland, June 2017

Henry Leutwyler and Ina Jang at Musée Des Beaux-Arts Le Locale, Switzerland, June 2017

The Document series by Henry Leutwyler presents itself as a gallery of portraits of objects that belonged to celebrities that Leutwyler could have photographed if he had been born a few years earlier. Isolated from their context and from their owner, these objects - icons of the modern world - capture our attention.

The MBAL invites Ina Jang (1982), a South Korean artist based in New York, to present her latest research. Utopia, made from images found on websites of Japanese magazines, presents silhouettes of female bodies with suggestive poses. The postures and hair were not modified by the artist. We find its mark in the technique of collage and the color processing in solid colors.

Martin Klimas - Show at Blue Sky Gallery

Martin Klimas - Show at Blue Sky Gallery

In order to create dramatic large-scale images of porcelain figurines, photographer Martin Klimas drops ceramic sculptures from a height of three meters. The sound the ceramic sculptures make when they hit the ground trips the high-speed shutter, capturing the dynamic motion that would otherwise be invisible to the human eye. For Klimas, this act of destruction allows for the creation of a new, more powerful narrative for these once static objects before they cease to exist. The exhibition takes place from July 7th to the 31st at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, Oregon.

CASEY RUBLE TO FELLOW IN WASHINGTON D.C.

CASEY RUBLE TO FELLOW IN WASHINGTON D.C.

Gallery artist Casey Ruble is off to do a fellowship for the month of July at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery. During her tenure she will complete Red Summer, a project that re-renders every object in the National Portrait Gallery from the year 1919—the deadliest year of interracial violence in the nation’s history—in ink on paper, with the sitter of the portrait redacted. A contemplation on what we look at, what we miss, and the political and poetic ramifications of forgetting and remembering, this series of nearly 50 small-scale works is part of Ruble’s ongoing investigation of the history of race riots in the U.S.

In March, Casey Ruble and the gallery enjoyed a write up of her show Everything that Rises in the New York Times' column What To See In New York Art Galleries This Week

Thomas Allen at the Akron Museum of Art

Through July 31 2016, Thomas Allen "Stranger" is on view at the Akron Museum of Art in a show titled, PULP. "The photographs in PULP span several decades, styles and approaches to the medium, but they share a connection to the humble and ubiquitous piece of paper. When recycled, scrap paper is milled into a pulp and then pressed into fresh, blank sheets. PULP highlights another type of recycling, in which artists create new images from discarded or insignificant fragments of modern life".

"What Does Sound Look Like?" - The New Yorker

The German photographer Martin Klimas is known for using high-speed-camera technology to capture processes that might otherwise escape the naked eye. He has fired projectiles into fruits and vegetables and photographed their exploding flesh, and shattered ceramic figures and delicate flowers to capture their thousands of dispersing shards in midair. In recent years, Klimas has devoted himself to exploring visual representations of sound...
